Preparation and Cooking time: 1 hour. Serves 2-3
Ingredients:
1 cup Moong Dal Chilka (Green Moong Split with Skin)
¼ Cup Patna Rice or Basmati Rice
1 tbsp Ghee (Clarified Butter)
¾ tsp Turmeric Powder
½ tsp Salt
Method:
Combine the moong dal and rice, wash with water thoroughly and strain.
Put the moong dal and rice back into the pan and let it soak in 900ml of water, turmeric and salt for 15 minutes.
Bring it to a boil, then simmer on low heat with a lid on until the water evaporates and the khichdi sits just at the bottom of the pan.
Finally, add the ghee and simmer for 2-3 minutes. Mix well and serve hot.
Enjoy hot with Ringan Nu Shaak or Batata Nu Shaak and Gujarati Kadhi.
NB: You may need to add water, about 30ml round, and let it evaporate.
